Après ce qui est sans doute deux des meilleures performances de sa carrière dans THE LOST CITY OF Z de James Gray et GOOD TIME de Safdies, Robert Pattinson ne change pas de direction. L'acteur continue de choisir des rôles audacieux avec des réalisateurs auteurs, et son prochain film semblerait être à nouveau un projet captivant.

Plus tôt dans l'année, il a été révélé que Pattinson allait travailler sur un projet sans nom avec Antonio Campos, le cinéaste de"Christine", "Simon Killer" et "Afterschool". Esquire a maintenant révélé que le titre du film est "The Devil All The Time ", et il semble que l'acteur va se plonger dans un rôle assez intense.

"Il y a cette ligne directrice - et parfois c'est tout ce dont vous avez besoin. Et c'est comme, 'Ooh ... c'est effrayant à dire'. Parce qu'il va passer à la postérité et je serai celui qui l'a annoncé. Il n'y a pas plus sombre. C'est un film sacrément sombre. Ce personnage est un prédicateur évangélique du Sud dans les années cinquante, mais il adore être mauvais et il est en quelques sortes drôle et charismatique aussi. Je sais, c'est irrésistible", a expliqué Pattinson.

Il ajoute que le personnage peut être sexuellement répugnant et violent aussi, mais cela ajoute encore plus à l'attrait du rôle. "... vous savez quand les acteurs disent:" Je refuse de jouer le rôle de quelqu'un qui a fait quelque chose de mal." Je me dis, comment, mais pourquoi? C'est complétement dingue. On ne peut rien faire de mal dans la vie réelle. Je pense que si quelqu'un a besoin de jouer un héros tout le temps, c'est probablement parce qu'ils font vraiment des choses répugnantes dans leur vie réelle. "

Tout cela fait vraiment penser que le film pourrait être une adaptation du livre de Donald Roy Pollock, qui se déroule dans les années 1950, et qui compte aussi un prédicateur parmi une foule d'autres personnages excentriques, dans ce qui ressemble à un conte sombre et complétement tordu. Il y a Roy, un prédicateur convaincu qu'il a le pouvoir de réveiller les morts, et son acolyte Theodore, un musicien en fauteuil roulant, vont de ville en ville, fuyant la loi et leur passé. Et pris au milieu de tout cela, Arvin Eugene Russell, Willard et le fils orphelin de Charlotte, qui grandit pour être un bon mais aussi un homme violent à part entière. 

La production devrait commencer d'ici la fin de l'année, et entre ce projet et 'High Life' de Claire Denis, il semble que nous ayons beaucoup à attendre de Pattinson.

Coming off what are arguably two of the best performances of his career in James Gray‘s THE LOST CITY OF Z and the Safdies‘ GOOD TIME, Robert Pattinson isn’t changing course. The actor is continuing to chase challenging roles with auteur directors, and his next sounds like it’s going to be another barn burner.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Pattinson was teaming up on an unnamed project with Antonio Campos, the filmmaker behind “Christine,” “Simon Killer,” and “Afterschool.” Now, Esquire has revealed the title of the film is “The Devil All The Time,” and it sounds like the actor is diving into a pretty steamy role.

“There’s this line in it — and sometimes that’s all you need. And it’s like, ‘Ooh… that’s scary to say’. Because it’ll go down in posterity and I’ll be the one saying it. You literally cannot get darker. It’s fucking dark. This character is an evangelical preacher in the South in the Fifties, but he’s gleefully bad and kind of funny and charismatic too. I know, it’s irresistible,” Pattinson explained.

He adds the character might be sexually repulsive and violent too, but that just adds to the appeal of the role. “…you know when actors say, ‘I refuse to play someone who does something bad.’ I’m, like, why? That’s fucking crazy. You can’t do anything bad in your real life. I think if someone needs to play a hero all the time, it’s probably because they’re doing really gross stuff in their real life.”

It all sounds like the film is an adaptation of the book by Donald Roy Pollock, which is set through the 1950s, and also features a preacher alongside a row of oddball characters, in what sounds like a dark and twisted tale. Here’s the book synopsis:

Set in rural southern Ohio and West Virginia, The Devil All the Time follows a cast of compelling and bizarre characters from the end of World War II to the 1960s. There’s Willard Russell, tormented veteran of the carnage in the South Pacific, who can’t save his beautiful wife, Charlotte, from an agonizing death by cancer no matter how much sacrifi­cial blood he pours on his “prayer log.” There’s Carl and Sandy Henderson, a husband-and-wife team of serial kill­ers, who troll America’s highways searching for suitable models to photograph and exterminate. There’s the spider-handling preacher Roy and his crippled virtuoso-guitar-playing sidekick, Theodore, running from the law. And caught in the middle of all this is Arvin Eugene Russell, Willard and Charlotte’s orphaned son, who grows up to be a good but also violent man in his own right. 

Production will reportedly start by the end of the year, and between this and Clare Denis‘ “High Life,” it looks like we have plenty to look forward to from Pattinson.

Robert Pattinson, who is in Cannes with his latest film Good Time, will star in the two-part film The Souvenir along with Tom Burke, Ariane Labed and Richard Ayoade.

Joanna Hogg will direct the '80s-set film that centers on a young film student who is involved in her first serious love affair with a complicated and untrustworthy man.

The female lead has not yet been cast. Burke will play the male lead in the first film, while Pattinson will take on the leading male role of the second film.

Martin Scorsese will executive produce with his Sikelia Productions partner Emma Tillinger Koskoff. Luke Schiller will produce the film, which is being introduced in Cannes by Protagonist.

Pattinson was recently seen in The Lost City of Z with Charlie Hunnam and Queen of the Desert with Nicole Kidman. He stars in the Safdie brothers’ Good Time, which is playing in the festival. He’s repped by WME, Curtis Brown Group in the UK and Sloane, Offer.

O.A.: Pas nécessairement, C'est le film que je devais faire il y a 2 ans, il est plutôt dans la lignée de CARLOS. Un film autour d'un fait divers sur lequel j'ai fait des recherches extrêmement précises pour en reconstituer tous les détails. Ce sera mon premier film américain. Pour le scénario, j'avais besoin de de sentir que j'avais fait un travail précis. Ce n'est pas ma culture, ni mon pays, ni mon histoire. Cela m’intéressait d'avoir un aspect de quasi-documentaire dans la reconstitution du fait divers. L'histoire se passe à Chicago à la fin des année 1970.

Sylvester Stallone doit jouer dans le film. Pourquoi lui en particulier?

O.A.:

Will all these themes related to the ‘invisible’ be in the movie IDOL’S EYE that you are working on and that you are going to shoot in 2017?

O.A.: Not necessarily, this is the movie that I wanted to make two years ago, it is more like the movie CARLOS; a film about a diverse news item on which I did extremely precise research to reconstruct all the details. It will be my first American movie. For the script, I needed to feel that I had done a precise job. It's not my culture, nor my country or my history. I was interested in making an almost documentary-like reconstruction of this diverse news item. The story takes place in Chicago in the late 1970s. 

Sylvester Stallone will play in the movie. Why him specifically? 

O.A.: I have always been a fan of Stallone, since ROCKY (1976), but also of the screenwriter and director that he is. He is always very precise with real authenticity. I’m in need of someone powerful and disturbing to represent Tony Accardo, the head of the Chicago mafia, a very important but little known historical figure. What is so powerful about Stallone is that he is not from middle-class, but working class (blue collar) background.. He has something popular. When you want to talk about the mafia, few actors of his stature could bring such dimension. I get along well with him, I find him very human. At the moment we only met twice. We shared simple things. It’s essential to talk about cinema and discover one another. Stallone is now more a director than an actor. So we share the same difficulties but of course on different levels.

Via le site La Nacion, nous apprenons que le réalisateur Français Olivier Assayas est en Argentine pour présenter son film 'Personal Shopper' au Festival du Film Mar del Plata. Il a parlé un peu de ce qui c'était passé en 2014 avec 'Idol's Eyes'. Il n'y a pas encore de date fixe mais il a mentionné Mars comme date possible de tournage et ça ne se fera plus au Canada pour cause de contraintes budgétaires. Il dit que les acteurs sont confirmés. Et il ajoute qu'il a désormais le contrôle sur son film, ce n'est plus sous le contrôle d'Hollywood. From La Nacion website and translation by our friend Flavia, we learn French director Olivier Assayas is in Argentina presenting his movie 'Personal Shopper' at the Mar del Plata Film Festival. He talks a bit about what happened with 'Idol's Eyes' in 2014. There is no dates yet but he does mention March as start date and that they will no longer film in Canada due to new budget constraints. He says actors are confirmed. And he says he has control of the movie now, not Hollywood. "The only good thing of this experience is to be able to film with Stallone, Pattinson or Weisz." says Assayas about 'Idol's eye' casting.

You may not know the name Houda Benyamina, but you’re probably going to hear much more about her. The filmmaker made waves with her feature debut “Divines,” which won the Camera d’Or at Cannes, and was snapped up by none other than Netflix. The movie is now streaming on the service, and Hollywood has taken note, with the director landing an American agent, and it has allowed her to meet with some name brand actors about her next movie.

According to Les InRocks, James Franco and Robert Pattinson are among the actors that Benyamina has discussed her next project with. The untitled film is apparently a love story and costume drama set against the backdrop of war, but there’s no further details at the moment. It all seems pretty early on, and casting still down the line, but it speaks to the heat Benyamina has generated that she’s nabbing this kind of attention from Hollywood types.

We’ll keep an ear to the ground for more details, but until then, maybe spent some of Thanksgiving weekend catching up with “Divines” and seeing what all the fuss is about.

Nous attendions une confirmation officielle pour parler de cette rumeur qui circule depuis bientôt une semaine, et d'après le site Production Weekly, Rob fait bien parti du casting du projet 'Damsel', un western/comédie dirigé par les frères Zellner et dont le tournage devrait débuter ce 12 Juillet jusqu'au 2 Septembre! Le film est décrit comme un western comédie à propos d'un homme qui essaie d'épouser la femme de ses rêves. Annoncée au casting aux cotés de Rob, l'actrice Mia Wasikowska, une de ses amies avec qui il avait déjà tourné dans 'Maps to the Stars'. Tout deux devaient déjà travailler ensemble l'année dernière dans un western nommé 'Brimstone' mais ils n'avaient pas pu aller au bout du projet. C'est donc une nouvelle opportunité de les voir réunis pour un western. Et en plus une comédie! Nous sommes plus que ravies de voir enfin Rob dans une comédie! Genre dans lequel nous sommes sur qu'il va exceller! Il semblerait que ce soit pour ce film que Rob se soit fait faire de fausses dents en argent (lire ici). We were waiting for an official confirmation about this rumor going around for almost a week, and according to Production Weekly's website, Rob is part of the cast of the project 'Damsel', a western/comedy directed by Zellner brothers and which filming is expected to begin on July 12 until September 2! The movie is described as a western comedy about a man who is trying to marry the woman of his dreams. Announced in the cast alongside Rob, actress Mia Wasikowska, one of his friends with whom he has already work in 'Maps to the Stars'. They both were already casted to work together last year in a western called 'Brimstone' but they were not able to do this project. Here is a new opportunity to see them together for a Western. And a comedy! We are more than excited to finally see Rob in a comedy! A sort of movie in which we are sure he will excel! It seems that it is for this movie that Rob is going to have two fake silver teeth (read here). We don't know much about this new project for the moment but will certainly keep you update!

La société Wild Bunch va également lancer officiellement les ventes du prochain film de Claire Denis en anglais, le film de science fiction High Life - avec Robert Pattinson, Patricia Arquette et Mia Goth - qui suivra un groupe de condamnés à mort qui sont amenés à rejoindre une mission spatiale difficile dans l'espoir de retrouver leur liberté si la mission est une réussite.

“Les autorités n'ont aucune intention de les laisser revenir sur Terre. Ils veulent que les prisonniers se reproduisent et élèvent un enfant dans l'espace dans le cadre d'une expérience plus grande” explique Maraval.

Le film suit le personnage de Monte quelques années après le lancement de la mission, alors qu'il élève sa fille, Willow, dans l'isolation la plus totale dans un vaisseau vide, alors qu'il se dirige vers sa destination finale, un trou noir.

Il a eu Willow contre son grès après que son sperme ait été utilisé pour inséminer un autre prisonnier dans l'espace dans le cadre d'une expérience. Mais alors qu'il l'élève, il va finir par expérimenter l'amour vrai pour la première fois de sa vie.

Le script est écrit par Claire Denis, par son collaborateur de longue date Jean-Pol Fargeau et Geoff Cox, qui a récemment pris part à l'écriture d'Evolution de Lucile Hadžihalilović, qui sera également disponible à l'EFM. La romancière britannique Zadie Smith (White Teeth) et son mari écrivain Nick Laird, qui avaient été annoncé faisant partie du projet en juin dernier, ne sont plus impliqués.

Comme précédemment annoncé, la cinéaste fait de nouveau équipe avec la directrice de la photographie Agnes Godard, tout comme avec Stuart Staples et les Tindersticks pour la bande originale et le son. Les monteurs de longue date, Leon Carax et Nelly Quettier, ont aussi intégré le projet. Le physicien français et expert en trou noir, Aurelien Barrau, sera leur conseiller scientifique.

L'artiste Dano-islandais Olafur Eliasson, connu pour son installation 'The Wheater Project' au Tate Modern sera le directeur artistique. La compagnie française BUF, qui a récemment travaillé sur The Transporter Refuelled, Love et The Lobster, s'occupera des effets spéciaux.

"Ce sera la première expérience cinématographique d'Olafur Eliasson. Il supervisera la conception du vaisseau spatial qui est très important pour le film" dit Maraval.

La production de 8 millions d'euros - produite par les français d'Alcatraz Films, les Allemands de Pandora Film et les Anglais d'Apocalypse Films, devrait normalement se tourner cet été en Allemagne.

What You Need to Know: Although he frequently earns comparisons to his New Hollywood buddies Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson, it’s easy to forget that James Gray is only five films into an already-impressive career. “Little Odessa,” “The Yards” and “We Own the Night” are moody, classicist crime dramas indebted to the work of Sidney Lumet and Francis Ford Coppola, while “Two Lovers” and the mesmerizing “The Immigrant” respectively tackled the romantic melodrama and the grandiose period epic. His newest, “The Lost City of Z,” looks to be his biggest, most ambitious and perhaps strangest film yet. The unforgiving jungle locale hearkens back to the early, dangerous cinema of Werner Herzog, and something about the juicy-sounding premise evokes the naturalist brutality of Joseph Conrad’s “Heart of Darkness” and the inarguable classic film the novel inspired, “Apocalypse Now,” which is one Coppola classic that Gray’s never borrowed from. As far as we’re concerned, Gray is five for five at this point, and we can’t wait to see what the director has up his sleeve with this epic-sounding drama.

Release Date: Gray’s a favorite at Cannes, so if it's done in time, expect it there.

13. “High Life”

Ce que vous devez savoir: Si nous avions eu à deviner quel genre de film la reine du film d'art et d'essai Claire Denis aurait fait après le brutal “Bastards” d'il y a quelques années, nous n'aurions pas dit un film de science fiction avec R-Patz. Et pourtant nous y sommes, avec Denis prête à filmer son premier film en langue anglaise, écrit par la géniale Zadie Smith et son partenaire, le poète Nick Laird, avec le toujours aventureux Pattinson et la récemment oscarisée Patricia Arquette. Même si le sujet est inhabituel pour Denis, elle n'a jamais eu peur de jouer avec les genres, et ça devrait être thématiquement dans ses cordes. En fait, la seule raison pour laquelle ce film n'est pas plus haut dans notre liste, c'est qu'en fonction de la quantité d'effets spéciaux impliqués, il n'est pas tout à fait certain que le film sera fini pour cette année.

What You Need To Know: If we could have guessed what arthouse queen Claire Denis would do next after the brutal “Bastards” from a few years ago, we wouldn’t have said ‘sci-fi starring R-Patz.’ And yet here we are, with Denis gearing up to shoot her first English-language movie, one excitingly penned by the great Zadie Smith and her partner, poet Nick Laird, with the ever-adventurous Pattinson and recent Oscar-winner Patricia Arquette starring. Though the subject matter is unusual for Denis, she’s never been afraid to play with genre, and it thematically should be up her street. In fact, the only reason this isn’t higher is that, depending on the amount of effects involved, it’s not entirely certain whether it’ll be ready for this year.

Release Date: Shooting begins shortly, and given that, “Bastards” aside, all of Denis’ recent movies premiered at Venice, that would be the best bet if it’s done in time.

Ça a pris du temps pour Korine de refaire un film, mais “The Trap” pourrait finir par faire encore plus de bruit —s'il se fait toujours, car nous n'en avons pas trop entendu parler depuis cet été. Un thriller, que le réalisateur appelle un “bombardement sensoriel ... un film de vengeance à super-propulsion, très très violent,” ce qui sonne bon pour nous. Il a un super casting déjà attaché au projet (en espérant que tout le monde est toujours impliqué), et nous sommes impatients de voir quel genre de rêve dingue enfiévré il nous a concocté cette fois ci. Si nous étions 100% sur que le film allait sortir cette année, il serait sans aucun doute dans notre top five.

Date de sortie: Le film devait se tourner ce mois ci. En assumant que ça se maintienne, il pourrait être prêt pour une avant-première à Venise, comme ce fut le cas pour “Spring Breakers”.

“The Trap”

What You Need To Know: As far as candidates for mainstream crossover status go, we’d have had indie world enfant terrible Harmony Korine fairly low on the list, and yet “Spring Breakers” proved to be a substantial hit in 2013, proving the eternal appeal of James Franco, as well as young women partying in swimsuits. It’s taken a little time for Korine to follow it up, but “The Trap” could end up making even more of a splash —if it’s still happening, as word’s been very quiet since the summer. A crime thriller, the director called it “sensory bombardment… a super propulsive, pretty highly violent revenge movie,” which sounds alright by us. He’s got a great cast lined up (assuming everyone’s still involved: schedules change, and if it is keeping to the original plan, it would clash with Benicio Del Toro’s “Star Wars” shoot), and we can’t wait to see what kind of bonkers fever dream he cooks up this time. If we were 100% sure that this was definitely going to be released this year, it’d undoubtedly be in our top five.

Release Date: The film was supposed to get before cameras this month. Assuming that holds, it could be ready for a Venice premiere, as “Spring Breakers” did.

High Life marks another first, as novelist Zadie Smith (White Teeth, On Beauty) makes her screenwriting debut, working alongside her writer husband Nick Laird and Denis. The producers are Laurence Clerc, Oliver Dungey, Christoph Friedel, Claudis Steffen and Olivier Théry-Lapiney.

Cologne’s profile as a filming destination was raised recently as the Emma Thompson/Daniel Brühl starrer Alone in Berlin using the city as one of its German locations, and Jim Jarmusch’s 2013 Only Lovers Left Alive utilised one of the city’s major filming facilities, Studio MMC Cologne.

Pour son premier film de science-fiction, la cinéaste française Claire Denis a jeté son dévolu sur la star de Twilight, Robert Pattinson.

[Exclusif] Star de Twilight et idole des ados, Robert Pattinson s'offre des choix de carrière surprenants. Après David Cronenberg, Werner Herzog et James Gray, il vient de dire oui à une autre personnalité du cinéma d'auteur très prisée aux Etats-Unis, la Française Claire Denis. Pour un projet ambitieux: le premier film de science-fiction de la réalisatrice de White Material. 

Elle travaille sur le scénario avec la romancière Zadie Smith (Sourires de loup), l'astrophysicien Aurélien Barrau et le plasticien Olafur Eliasson. Le film sera tourné en anglais à Cologne, en Allemagne, à la fin de l'année.

La réalisatrice Claire Denis (Trouble Every Day, Les Salauds) travaille actuellement sur le scénario d'un film de science-fiction, avec la romancière Zadie Smith, l'astrophysicien Aurélien Barrau et le plasticien Olafur Eliasson. L'histoire n'est donc pas encore finalisée, mais le projet, lui, a déjà son acteur principal, en la personne de Robert Pattinson. La star révélée par Twilight va donc tourner sous la direction de Claire Denis, à la fin de l'année, en Anglais, mais à Cologne en Allemagne. Il n'y a plus qu'à espérer que Vincent Gallo se joigne à la fête, lui qui fut à l'affiche de trois films de Claire Denis.

Robert Pattinson to film with the French director Claire Denis

For her first science fiction film, French director Claire Denis has choosen the Twilight star, Robert Pattinson.

[Exclusive] Star of Twilight and teen idol Robert Pattinson made some surprising choices for his career. After David Cronenberg, Werner Herzog and James Gray, he just said yes to another popular director from the United States, the French Claire Denis. For an ambitious project: the first science fiction movie from the director of White Material.

She is working on the screenplay with the novelist Zadie Smith (White Teeth), the astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau and the artist Olafur Eliasson. The movie will be shot in english in Cologne, in Germany, at the end of the year.

Robert Pattinson est attaché en tant que rôle principal au prochain film de science fiction de Claire Denis, tourné en langue anglaise, écrit par l'auteur britannique Zadie Smith.
Les producteurs parisiens Alcatraz Film ont confirmé le casting à ScreenDaily en ajoutant: “Nous sommes très fiers et très heureux, tout comme l'est Claire, à propos de ce qui se présente comme une grande collaboration. Robert est très impliqué dans le projet et nous sommes très impliqués avec lui.”
Pattinson devrait jouer le rôle principal qui est un astronaute dans ce film qui n'a pour le moment pas de titre, dont Screen parlait déjà en juin.
Les détails de l'histoire sont encore gardé secrets mais nous savons qu'elle se déroule au-delà de notre Système Solaire, dans un 'futur qui rappelle notre présent'.

Robert Pattinson is attached to play the lead role in Claire Denis’ upcoming English-language sci-fi film, written with British writer Zadie Smith.
Paris-based producers Alcatraz Film confirmed the casting to ScreenDaily and said: “We are very proud and very happy, as is Claire, about what will be a great collaboration. Robert is committed to the project and we are committed to him.”
Pattinson is set to play the astronaut lead role in the as-yet-untitled film, which Screen first reported on in June.
Plot details are being kept under wraps but it is known to take place beyond the solar system in a ‘future that seems like the present’.
Denis is writing the script with acclaimed novelist Smith (White Teeth) and Smith’s writer husband Nick Laird.
The project, which marks an intriguing change of direction for the White Material and Beau Travail writer-director, is based on an original idea by Denis and her regular writing partner Jean-Pol Fargeau and is due to go into production early next year.
Producers are Oliver Dungey (Miss Julie), Laurence Clerc and Olivier Thery Lapiney from Paris-based Alcatraz Films, and Claudia Steffen and Christoph Friedel of Pandora Filmproduktion in Cologne.
Alcatraz and Pandora produced Denis’ most recent feature Bastards, which debuted at Cannes in 2013.
Denis regulars Wild Bunch are handling international sales while Des Hamilton is casting the project, which is currently in advanced development and is due to shoot in studio in Cologne in late 2015/early 2016.
Collaborators on the film also include Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson, known for his Tate Modern installation The Weather Project; astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau, known for his work on black holes and cosmology; and Stuart Staples of indie band Tindersticks, who previously provided music for Denis titles including White Material and 35 Rhums.

After the immensely promising news that Claire Denis will follow up Bastards, one of our favorite films of the last few years, with a sci-fi film set in space, we now know who will be leading the project. According to L’Express, Robert Pattinson has been set to star in the project, adding another impressive collaborator to his resume after David Cronenberg, Werner Herzog, Anton Corbijn, David Michôd, and James Gray.
Based off an idea by Denis and frequent collaborator Jean-Pol Fargeau, the script will come from Zadie Smith and Nick Laird, although plot details aren’t being disclosed yet, though Pattinson will take the role of an astronaut. The only brief note we’re given is that it will “take place beyond the solar system in a future that seems like the present.” Additional collaborators include artist Olafur Eliasson and astrophysicist Aurélien Barrau, as well as Tindersticks‘ Stuart Staples, who has had many previous collaborations with Denis.
