Robert Pattinson is earning rave reviews for his intense and electrifying performance in A24’s crime thriller, “Good Time.” Under the helm of directors and brothers Josh and Benny Safdie, the “Twilight” star hides his dashing good looks to portray a grimy, bleached blond, goatee-sporting, crook from Queens, New York, who embarks on a mission to bail his mentally impaired brother (played by co-director Benny) out of prison after a failed robbery attempt. While taking on the demanding role, Pattinson said the experience has helped him mature into a commanding actor.

“I think I’m more confident now; this was a challenging role and I learned a lot about my abilities as an actor,” Pattinson told Variety at the film’s New York premiere on Tuesday evening, held at the School of Visual Arts Theatre. “Every single time I get to do another movie, I get a little more confident. You always want to grow in some way and challenge yourself. I feel like this one has helped me become a better actor.”

The film, from Josh and Benny Safdie, will make its world premiere as a competition title at this year’s 70th annual Cannes Film Festival. The film also stars Benny Safdie, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Buddy Duress, and Barkhad Abdi.
The film follows a bank robber’s race to evade the police dragnet that threatens to send him behind bars. Josh and Benny Safdie directed the movie from a screenplay by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein.
Variety first reported the A24 acquisition in October.
The Safdie brothers are well known in the indie film community for their work on “Go Get Some Rosemary” and “Heaven Knows What.” Pattinson shot to fame as the brooding vampire in the “Twilight” films and has starred in David Cronenberg films “Map to the Stars” and “Cosmopolis,” and is appearing in the James Gray drama “Lost City of Z.”
“Good Time” is produced by Elara Pictures, the Safdie brothers, Sebastian Bear-McClard, Paris Latsis, Terry Dougas, and Oscar Boyson, and was financed by Hercules Film Fund. Elara Pictures and Rhea Films were the production companies. Jean-Luc De Fanti executive produced.

Judging from the glitz and glamour of the red carpet at “The Lost City of Z” premiere, one would never have guessed all of the grunt work that the cast and crew went through to get their movie onto the big screen. Stars Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller, and Tom Holland, as well as producer Brad Pitt, were among the stars in attendance at the ArcLight Hollywood on Wednesday night as James Gray’s historical drama made its debut.

The film, which features the story of British explorer Percy Fawcett (Hunnam) and his obsession with finding the remnants of a once-great civilization in the Amazon, was in development for several years before a grueling shoot in the Colombian jungle.

Pattinson, who plays Fawcett’s aide-de-camp Henry Costin, discussed what it was like to shoot in the jungle. “After the first week when we realized it’s basically going to be a tropical thunderstorm at 3:30 p.m. every single day, it was kind of easy to go with it because it was pretty consistent weather — just not a lot of time to shoot anything,” Pattinson said. “But I find that anything that makes it easier to not act at all makes it way easier. We were just in a raft on the river and the only difference was there was a camera there; I thought it was very satisfying and fun.”

(...) Shooting “The Lost City of Z” presented a number of challenges. Much of the film unfolds in the Amazon, with Holland and co-stars Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson playing British explorers dodging hostile natives and disease. The film is inspired by a true story and is based on the expeditions of Percy Fawcett. Much of the production took place in remote parts of the Colombian jungle.

“It was literally one of the most insane shoots I’ve ever been on in my entire life,” said Pattinson. “There was a crew member who got bitten in the neck by an arbor viper coming down from a tree. We found out we didn’t have a nurse. We didn’t have a medic on set and no anti-venom and we’re four hours from the city, and everyone’s just like, ‘smoke a cigarette, it will work.’ The props guys sucked the venom from the guy’s neck.”

Director James Gray, whose previous works include “The Yards” and “The Immigrant,” said it was the most difficult and grueling film he’d ever made.

“It was punishing,” said Gray. “It was a hundred degrees, a hundred percent humidity and then there were the bugs.” (...)

Pan-European major Studiocanal has acquired James Gray’s anticipated “Lost City of Z” with Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller and Tom Holland, in multiple territories. 

Studiocanal will distribute the action-adventure film in France, the U.K., Germany and Australia/New Zealand. 

Sold by Sierra/Affinity, “Lost City of Z” is produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner via Plan B Entertainment along with Anthony Katagas and Dale Johnson. 

Based on David Grann’s 2009 novel, “Lost City of Z” follows the adventures of Percy Fawcett, a soldier and explorer who embarked with his son on an expedition to find the mythical kingdom of El Dorado in the Amazon jungles of Brazil and disappeared. 

The ambitious pic marks Gray’s follow up to “The Immigrant,” his 2013 period drama with Marion Cotillard which world premiered in competition at Cannes. “Lost City of Z,” however, is not expected to play in Cannes since it’s still in early post and will not be completed in time for the festival. 

MadRiver Pictures’ Marc Butan is exec producing with MICA’s Julie B. May and Glenn Murray. MICA Entertainment is financing. 

“Lost City of Z” shot in Belfast, Northern Ireland and in Colombia. Sierra/Affinity unveiled a promo at the EFM. 

Paramount Pictures will release the film in the U.S..

Passé la question sur le rôle de Dean, la matière qu’a choisi Corbijn semblait très intéressante. Premier fait, nous apprenons l’impopularité de Dean avant et pendant la campagne du film East of Eden. Souvent associé comme le fiancé de Pier Angeli (Alessandra Mastronardi), le rebelle de l’Indiana n’est pas encore l’icône qu’il deviendra par la suite. S’attardant sur cette relation amicale entre Stock et Dean, Corbijn parvient avec finesse à se fondre dans cette histoire, plutôt axée sur l’obsession de ce photographe, excellemment joué par Robert Pattinson, que l’impact de James Dean.

Fascinant, contrôlé, Life est un biopic minutieux et calculé. Ces éloges vont vers un excellent duo, Pattinson et DeHaan, ainsi qu’à Corbijn qui s’approprie l’histoire en recréant l’univers des clichés célèbres. Notons que le titre du film n’est pas la traduction anglaise de « vie », mais plutôt un clin d’oeil au très célèbre magazine américain. Belle immersion dans cette relation, tirée d’une histoire vraie, sous le regard d’un réalisateur qui, doit-on le rappeler, était photographe avant d’être cinéaste…

Qu’est ce qu’une star sinon quelqu’un qui ramène du monde, même quand il n’est pas là? Robert Pattinson est l’exemple parfait, comme l’a montré la projection presse de Life d’Anton Corbijn (hors compétition), dont il est la tête d’affiche. Son simple nom a fait venir une foule ahurissante, discutant dans toutes les langues, dans une file d’attente comparable à celles qui devancent les attractions de Disneyland Paris. (...) L’intelligence de Corbijn est de n’avoir pas casté Robert Pattinson pour jouer le Jimmy fumeur et photogénique. Ce dernier est interprété par Dane DeHaan, parfait en jeune homme fat, insupportable de flemme, de narcissisme et de poses. Pattinson, superstar et poster-boy depuis Twilight et qui fait tout pour se détacher de lui-même (chez Cronenberg notamment), est l’anonyme, masqué par la lumière de son flash.(...) Ce que Corbijn filme magnifiquement, c’est moins l’icône que tout ce qui va avec. Comme par exemple, le revers de la fascination que Stock a pour Dean, et qui n’est rien d’autre que la mise en lumière de son propre ratage. An intense mob formed around the Berlinale press screening of Anton Corbijn's Life — such is the continued allure of Robert Pattinson. His fans beyond the festival will be pleased to hear that his brittle performance as LIFE magazine photographer, Dennis Stock, outshines Dane DeHaan's over-baked rendering of James Dean, although the latter is poignant enough to enliven this tale of men helping each other to take a leap into greatness...Pattinson's performance is as crisp as the white shirt and black suits his character always wears. This is a camouflage for his own problems that slowly unfurl, adding colour and improving the film...The social backdrop is just as carefully wrought. In another film, Ben Kingsley's fuming studio head, Jack Warner, would be The Other Man to Jimmy Dean and the tussle would be Saving Mr Banks flavour. Instead, Kingsley ball-busts just enough to give Jimmy's non-conformity gravitas, but the viewfinder is trained on the man behind the camera. Pattinson steps up, allowing more of his character's insides to come out. As Life proceeds the pace picks up and by the third act, it is a compelling dramatisation of an artistically fascinating alliance.

Dean's ability to mirror the dilemmas of a disenfranchised generation of youngster made him a star and whilst DeHaan's performance is a little over-exaggerated, he still manages to capture that sense of relatable despondency. This also affords Pattinson time out of the spotlight in one of his strongest roles to date.

DeHaan method acts his way into the persona of a consummate method actor whose cool persona was partly a protective screen; his Dean is very much in the mould of the Dean remembered by his East Of Eden co-star Lois Smith, who once said: “He was a sweet, rustic person, but there was also this suspicious, taut, guarded young man”. Pattinson’s hangdog character is defined by an exchange in which, after Dean tells him he’s disappointed in him, he replies “you’re not the only one”.

For Robert Pattinson, his take on iconic photographer Dennis Stock is equally as impressive as he enters the world of Hollywood from the other side of the carpet (and at bottom). Spotting Dean's talent early, Stock, in the two-hour running time attempts to get photographs of Dean before fame kicks in. Deadlines, pressure and awkwardness soon mount-up, and Pattinson expertly presents it onto screen.

Quel genre de film est-ce?
C'est une épopée qui se situe sur différentes périodes. Une histoire sombre et violente, mais aussi une aventure croustillante. Pour ce qui est de l'histoire j'oserais dire qu'il n'y a pas film comme Brimstone jusqu'à maintenant, ça ne ressemble à rien que vous ayez déjà vu. Raconté d'une façon que vous n'avez jamais vu avant. Ce n'est pas un western classique, qui se situe sur une même période, à la fin du 19ème siècle, dans l'ouest des États-Unis. Bien sûr il y a des éléments de films précédents. La Nuit du chasseur, pour n'en nommer qu'un, par exemple, a été une source d'inspiration pour moi. Pour la première fois j'ai écrit quelque chose qui me correspond vraiment et le genre de film que je veux vraiment faire. Mais c'est aussi une histoire qui ne se fait pas aussi rapidement dans un cadre néerlandais.

Pattinson plays an outlaw who has a crucial influence on this tale of retribution. Wasikowska plays Liz, a heroine on the run from her past, pursued by Pearce’s diabolical Preacher.
“Martin directs a highly emotional, gripping and unique story of a mesmerizing woman who battles the vengeance of a zealot,” said Embankment’s Tim Haslam.
Pic, which starts principal photography in May, is penned and helmed by Martin Koolhoven, who directed Dutch box-office hit “Winter in Wartime.”

What kind of movie is it? 
It’s an epic film set in different periods. A dark and violent story, but also a juicy adventure. In terms of story I dare to say that there is no movie like Brimstone yet, it looks like nothing that you already know. Told in a way you’ve never seen before. It’s not a classic western, takes place only in the same time, at the end of the 19th century, set in the western United States. Though of course it has elements of previous films. The  Night of the Hunter, to name but a few, for example, have been a source of inspiration for me. For the first time I have written something that really really suits me and the kind of movie I want to make it up. But also a story that I do not happen as quickly in a Dutch setting.

Il est vêtu d'un costume arabique dans toutes ses scènes et il est absolument magnifique et il est très drôle, plus drôle qu'il ne l'a jamais été dans un autre film. A un moment, il porte des bébés lion et on le voit aussi assis sur un dromadaire! Il est dans la première scène du film, puis on le voit trois fois de plus. Il est parfaitement crédible dans ce rôle qu'il incarne parfaitement! Le public a vraiment apprécié ses scènes et a réagit de manière très positive! C'est un autre rôle qui montre le talent incroyable de Rob! J'ai vraiment hâte de retourner le voir demain!!! "

"We just saw Queen of the Desert and all I can say I really loved the film and Rob was more than amazing in it!!! He is in an arrabian costume in all his scenes looking absolutely gorgeous and he's very funny, funnier than he has ever been in any other film. At one point he is holding baby lions and we also see him sitting on a camel! He's in the first scene of the film and then shows up 3 more times. He is totally believable in this role blending in perfectly! The audience really liked his scenes and reacted really positivly! This is another role showing Rob's incredible talent!I can't wait to see the film again tomorrow!!!"

"Rob is amazing, so handsome. He is wearing an arabian costume, sitting on a camel, carrying two baby lions, flirting with Nicole Kidman and everyone was laughing!!!  He is in the first scene, in the middle and at the end of the movie. He is the best part, he really should star in a romantic comedy."

“I’ve been around Rob enough,” Dornan says. “I’ve seen what it’s been like for him.” Have they chatted about the price of fame? “I don’t remember what we talked about the last time I saw him,” he says. “I think we just got drunk.”

Mais pour le moment seul Jamie Fox et Benicio Del Toro ont été annoncé au casting du projet 'The Trap' qui se tournera début 2015. Rob avait parlé d'un film de gangsters qui se déroulerait à Miami, et c'est le cas pour 'The Trap'. Attendons d'en savoir plus et d'avoir une confirmation. Je suis à fond là dedans." Il a aussi déclaré que le casting serait "conséquent" , et maintenant nous comprenons exactement ce à quoi ça ressemblera.

Après Robert Pattinson, THR annonce que Benitio del Toro et Jamie Foxx ont tous 2 rejoint le casting du film de vengeance écrit par Korine. Ils ont aussi laissé filtré quelques détails sur l’intrigue, disant qu’il s’agit d’un "thriller se focalisant sur 2 amis d’enfance ayant maintenant atteint la trentaine, un d’eux a beaucoup de succès et l’autre a passé la majeure partie de sa vie d’adulte en prison. A la veille d’une grande reconnaissance pour l’homme qui a réussi, l’autre est libéré de prison et déterminé à se venger" .  Vu ce que Korine a pu faire avec James Franco, nous sommes impatients de voir ce qu’il réserve à Foxx et Del Toro. 'Maps To The Stars': US Release is Postponed to 2015 and the Movie Opens in Canada on Oct. 31 According to Variety

'Maps To The Stars': La Sortie US est Repoussée à 2015 et le Film Sortira dans les Salles au Canada le 31 Oct. selon Variety

Variety nous annonce que Entertainement One a laissé la distribution de 'Maps to the Stars' à Focus World pour les États Unis et ils parlent d'une sortie qui serait repoussée jusqu'en 2015 pour les cinémas, si le film ne sort pas directement en VOD là bas! Ceci n'est pas encore confirmé.

C'est donc une mauvaise nouvelle pour les nominations pour les oscars 2015 auxquelles le film et ses acteurs ne devraient donc pas pouvoir prétendre. Julianne Moore était pourtant très bien placée pour être nominée.

Le Canada, de son coté, voit la date du 31 octobre comme date de sortie définitive dans ses cinémas, et le film sera lancé dans d'autres régions du monde à partir de cette année.

After winning the best actress award in Cannes for “Maps to the Stars,” Julianne Moore was considered a strong bet in this year’s Oscar race for her turn as a washed-up star in the David Cronenberg drama. But the overdue actress, who has been nominated for four Academy Awards without winning, could be sitting out of awards season.

In a deal that closed last week, Focus World picked up U.S. distribution rights to the Cronenberg drama from Canadian outfit Entertainment One (eOne), sources tell Variety exclusively. “Maps to the Stars” won’t premiere stateside until early 2015.

Focus World is the alternative distribution division of Focus Features, and it hasn’t been decided if the drama will be released on VOD, play in theaters domestically or some combination thereof. “Maps” could get an Oscar qualifying theatrical release at the end of 2014, so that it would at least be eligible for Academy Awards nominations, according to one individual with knowledge of the deal, but a movie with that kind of strategy can sometimes get lost in the slew of December contenders.

“Maps to the Stars” will screen this fall at the Toronto International and New York Film Festivals, which are traditionally launching pads for Oscar contenders. On Sept. 9, Moore is scheduled to appear at a cocktail event following a screening of the film at Toronto.

“Maps to the Stars” premiered at Cannes to mixed reviews, although Moore was singled out by critics as delivering one of the best performances of her career. The film is a dark deconstruction of celebrity culture and co-stars Mia Wasikowska, Olivia Williams, John Cusack and Robert Pattinson, who previously worked with Cronenberg on “Cosmopolis.” Bruce Wagner (“Wild Palms”) wrote the screenplay.

Co-financed by eOne and Prospero Pictures, “Maps to the Stars” was produced by Prospero’s Martin Katz, SBS Productions’ Saïd Ben Saïd and Michel Merkt. Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab and eOne’s Benedict Carver executive-produced the film.

EOne Films International handles worldwide rights to “Maps to the Stars,” and will directly distribute the film in Canada, the U.K., and Australia and New Zealand. The movie opens in Canada on Oct. 31, and will rollout to other regions of the world starting this year.
