Great interview of Claire Denis in the April issue of Vogue Homme. Great to see the confidence that Rob had in this project and his willingness to be a part of it. Great to see how Claire Denis was seduced by him immediately. Great to see that this is a role originally written for the great and missed Philip Seymour Hoffman. Great to read everything Claire says about Rob. A must read!

Studiocanal a acquit les droits du très attendu “Lost City of Z” de James Gray avec Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller et Tom Holland, sur plusieurs territoires.

Studiocanal distribuera le film d'aventure en France, au Royaume Uni, en Allemagne et en Australie/Nouvelle Zélande.

Pan-European major Studiocanal has acquired James Gray’s anticipated “Lost City of Z” with Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson, Sienna Miller and Tom Holland, in multiple territories. 

Studiocanal will distribute the action-adventure film in France, the U.K., Germany and Australia/New Zealand. 

Sold by Sierra/Affinity, “Lost City of Z” is produced by Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner via Plan B Entertainment along with Anthony Katagas and Dale Johnson. 

Based on David Grann’s 2009 novel, “Lost City of Z” follows the adventures of Percy Fawcett, a soldier and explorer who embarked with his son on an expedition to find the mythical kingdom of El Dorado in the Amazon jungles of Brazil and disappeared. 

The ambitious pic marks Gray’s follow up to “The Immigrant,” his 2013 period drama with Marion Cotillard which world premiered in competition at Cannes. “Lost City of Z,” however, is not expected to play in Cannes since it’s still in early post and will not be completed in time for the festival. 

MadRiver Pictures’ Marc Butan is exec producing with MICA’s Julie B. May and Glenn Murray. MICA Entertainment is financing. 

“Lost City of Z” shot in Belfast, Northern Ireland and in Colombia. Sierra/Affinity unveiled a promo at the EFM. 

Paramount Pictures will release the film in the U.S..

It's now been over a year since Werner Herzog unveiled "Queen Of The Desert" at the Berlin Film Festival, and while it has played a small handful of festivals since, and opened in some foreign territories, the picture has mostly been under the radar. But let's hope the arrival of this new trailer means that a big screen release is on the horizon.

Starring Nicole Kidman, James Franco, Damian Lewis, and Robert Pattinson, the film tells the story of Gertrude Bell, the British explorer, traveler, archaeologist, and political officer who played a key role in Middle East politics in the 1920s, during the last days of the Ottoman Empire. It's potentially powerful stuff, but as our review notes, "the film does a disservice to the real Bell" by telling her tale in "a movie bracketed by romance." Here's the synopsis: 

A true story of the life of British explorer and adventurer, Gertrude Bell, QUEEN OF THE DESERT chronicles her journeys of love and loss in the Middle East during the early 20th century. 

Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman (THE PAPERBOY, RABBIT HOLE, AUSTRALIA, THE HOURS) stars alongside Academy Award nominated James Franco (SPRING BREAKERS, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, 127 HOURS), Golden Globe & Emmy Award winner Damian  Lewis (“Homeland”, KEANE, “Band of Brothers”), and Robert Pattinson (THE ROVER, MAPS TO THE STARS, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS) . The story of QUEEN OF THE DESERT is based on the true-life story of Gertrude Bell, who was a British political officer and archaeologist but ultimately a trailblazer on her terms. The story details the extraordinary adventures of Bell wrestling with the conflicts of love and tragedy, enemy and friend, and foreign and familiar as she sought to understand and unify people from different cultures.

No exact release date this year, but look for "Queen Of The Desert" in cinemas this year.
