Childhood of a Leader won the "Luigi de Laurentiis" Venice Award for a Debut Film on Saturday. Director Brady Corbet also won the Best Director Horizons award, presented by Jonathan Demme.
"I really love you Jonathan Demme. I always have," he told the Horizons jury president.
Robert Pattinson and Stacy Martin star in the historical drama, which details the childhood of a fascist leader during World War I.
Director-writer Brady Corbet flew in from upstate New York the day before to receive his prize. He was shocked to receive the prize, saying that he remembered questioning his family's future when they were trying to put the film together, wary of whether or not it would turn out.
"My daughter might look at this in 25 years. I just want to say be patient, be radical, be free," said Corbet on accepting the prize.
The film was the only film In Venice shown on 35mm. "Celluloid should be a filmmaker's right, not a privilege," said Corbet upon receiving his second prize of the night.

Les chances de voir Rob nommé en tant que 'Meilleur Acteur' pour 'Cosmopolis' aux Oscars ou aux Golden Globes en 2013 sont quasi nulles. Rob a reçu de très bonnes critiques pour sa performance de Billionnaire New Yorkais égocentrique mais les critiques concernant 'Cosmopolis' ont été très mitigées. Pattinson pourrait peut être voir ses chances de nominations ressusciter si un gros groupe de critiques influents le soutenaient pendant les saisons des Awards, mais c'est peu probable et mince.

Si les possibilités de récompenses pour Pattinson ne sont pas des meilleures aux Etats Unis, il faut garder à l'esprit qu'il a de grandes chances d'être nommé pour les 'Genie Awards' au Canada. Des artistes non canadiens ont très souvent été nommés pour leur travail dans une production ou co-production canadienne. Pour les films de David Cronenberg, ce fut le cas de Jeremy Irons pour 'Dead Ringer', de Michael Fassbender pour 'A Dangerous Method', et de Viggo Mortensen pour 'A Dangerous Method' et 'Les Promesses de L'ombre'.
