Dans une interview avec Huffington Post, Dane DeHaan parle du film 'Life' et revient sur la relation qui s'est crée entre lui et Rob sur le tournage, mais aussi des fans de Rob.

Comment vous et Robert Pattinson avez vous fait pour créer cette relation entre James et Dennis? 

C'est une relation intéressante parce que je ne les vois pas vraiment comme des amis. Jeles vois comme deux artistes qui luttent de manière différentes, parce qu'ils travaillent de façons différentes, et alors ils se croisent et ils s'influencent tout les deux en tant qu'artistes. Alors que beaucoup disent que c'est un film sur une amitié, je ne vois pas vraiment la partie amitié. Ce n'est pas que Rob et moi n'étions pas amis, c'est juste je pense la relation que nous avions à cause du film. Nous avons passé du temps ensemble plusieurs fois en dehors du tournage, mais à part ça, ça s'est fait sur le tournage, c'est là qu'on a vraiment appris à se connaitre, pendant le processus de fabrication du film, comme deux artistes qui font les choses de manières différentes. Et je pense que de cette façon vous n'avez pas besoin de "jouer" la relation, vous lui permettez de se créer à l'écran.

Vous avez travaillé avec des acteurs qui ont d'énormes fandoms, comme Daniel Radcliffe et Rob Pattinson. Est ce que vous avez vu tout ça lorsque vous étiez sur le tournage avec eux? Et craignez vous ce genre de célébrité pour vous à l'avenir? 

J'ai travaillé avec Shia LaBeouf aussi, et ça se manifeste de façon différente pour tous ces gars. C'est intéressant parce que tous ces films ont des cibles de spectateurs différentes. Les gens adore Dan dans le sens où ils veulent rester proche de lui, alors qu'avec Rob, ils veulent juste lui sauter dessus et l'embrasser -- il y a cette sexualité qui va avec les fans de Rob dans le sens où ils sont à fond sur lui en tant qu'être sexuel. Et les fans de Shia sont du genre, "Tu es le héro de Transformer!" Ils gèrent tous ça de façon différente. Leurs vies sont toutes plus dingues que la mienne. Mais est ce que j'ai peur que ça m'arrive? 

Oui, par exemple, pouvez vous vous balader sans qu'on vous reconnaisse?

Et bien, ce n'est pas qu'ils ne me reconnaissent pas mais ...

Vous n'êtes pas vraiment attaqué.

En effet. Je peux aller dans un supermarché et les gens me disent, "Salut, je t'aime bien." Et moi je leur dis, "Merci!" ... Quand nous filmions "Life," Je me souviens d'un jour sur le tournage et Rob qui me disait, "je suis allé dans un supermarché pour la première fois depuis tellement longtemps." Et moi je lui dis, "Ah oui?" Je ne sais pas. Je ne pense pas vraiment à tout ça parce que c'est hors de contrôle et que je suis juste reconnaissant de pouvoir faire ce que je fais.

What did you and Robert Pattinson do to create that bond James and Dennis shared? 

It's an interesting bond because I don't really look at them as friends. I look at them as two artists who were both struggling in different ways, because they work in different ways, and they come across each other and they influence each other as artists. So while a lot of people are calling it a friendship movie, I don't really see the friendship part of it. It's not like Rob and I weren't friends, it's just I felt like that was the relationship we had probably because of the film. We hung out a couple of times outside of set, but other than that, it would be show up on set and really get to know each other through the process of making the movie as two artists who go about things in two different ways. And I think in that way, you don't have to "act" the relationship, you just allow it to happen on screen.

You've worked with some actors with huge fan bases, like Daniel Radcliffe and Rob Pattinson. Did you see all that come into play when you were on set with them? And are you fearful of that kind of fame yourself going forward? 

I've worked with Shia LaBeouf too, and it manifests itself differently for all those guys. It's interesting because all those movies have a different target audience. People love Dan in this way where they want to hold him close, where with Rob, they just want to jump on him and make out with him -- there's this sexuality that goes along with Rob's fans where they're just sooo into him as a sexual being. And then Shia's fans are like, "You're the Transformer hero!" They all handle it different ways. Their lives are all more crazy than mine is. But am I scared of that happening? 

Yeah, like for example, can you walk around without people noticing you?

Yeah, well, they don't not notice me but ...

It's not like you're attacked.

Right. I can go to the grocery store and people are like, "Hi, I really like you." And I'm like, "Thank you!" ... When we were filming "Life," I remember one day on set Rob was like, "I went to the grocery store for the first time in so long." And I was like, "OK?" I don't know. I don't really think about that stuff that much because it's sort of out of my control and I’m just really grateful that I get to do what I do.

Francis Lawrence a été interrogé à propos de Rob et de ses fans pendant le tournage de 'De l'Eau pour les Éléphants'.

Votre film précédent avant Hunger Games était De l'Eau pour les Éléphants, un film avec Reese Witherspoon et Robert Pattinson. Vous avez travaillé avec lui en plein pendant la folie Twilight, et après vous êtes allés travailler sur Hunger Games.  Quelles leçons avez vous apprises lors de vos interactions avec Robert Pattinson? Il s'est retrouvé confronté aux tabloïds et aux fans - puis il a ensuite travaillé avec Jennifer Lawrence sur Hunger Games juste après ça.

Lorsque j'ai travaillé avec Rob, il avait évidemment énormément de fans à cause de Twilight et il y avait des femmes et des filles, mais je dirais des femmes, qui campaient à coté de notre lieu de tournage tous les jours et près de nos hôtels quand nous tournions en dehors de la ville, et c'était bizarre. Il était toujours très timide à propos de ça. Je me souviens avoir fait un film avec Will Smith avant ça, il est aussi très populaire, et il avait une façon très différente d'interagir avec ses fans, et j'essayais d'aider Rob à être un peu plus confortable dans sa façon d'accepter son fandom.

Ce que j'ai appris c'est que ces deux fandoms sont très différents l'un de l'autre. Ses fans sont très différents de ceux de Will Smith, et si les fans de Rob avaient pu l'attraper à cette époque, on avait l'impression qu'ils l'auraient mis en lambeaux. Ils voulaient lui attraper les cheveux, lui attraper le t-shirt, je veux dire que ça gars … il avait des raisons de se sentir nerveux en présence de certains de ces fans. Pas tous mais certains.

En grande partie, pour les fans d'Hunger Games, ils sont très, très passionnés sur les histoires et les idées, et concernant les personnages, et oui, ils adorent les acteurs, mais il n'y a pas cette sorte d'appétit sexuel vorace que je ressentais quand j'étais entouré par les fans de Rob.

Francis Lawrence was asked about Rob and his fans during 'Water for Elephants' filming

Your previous film before the Hunger Games was Water for Elephants, a Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson picture. You worked with him right in the middle of the Twilight mania, and then you went out to do the Hunger Games.  What lessons did you take from interacting with Robert Pattinson, he dealt with that kind of tabloid fame and fan- that went into working with Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games right afterwards.

When I worked with Rob, he obviously had a huge fan base because of Twilight and there were women and girls, but I say women, camped out at our set every day and at our hotels when we were shooting out of town, and it was odd. He was always very shy about it. I remember having done a movie previously with Will Smith, who is also very popular, and he has a very different way of interacting with his fans, and I was trying to see if I could get Rob a little more comfortable with sort of embracing the fan-dom.

What I learned from him is that actually the two fandoms are very different from one another. His fans are very different from Will Smith’s fans, right, and if Rob’s fans got a hold of him, at least at that time it felt like they would rip him to shreds. They would pull his hair out, they would pull his shirt apart, I mean that guy … there was reason for him to be nervous with some of those fans. Not all but some.

For the most part, with Hunger Games fans, they’re really, really, passionate about the stories and about the ideas, and about the characters, and yes, they love the actors, but there’s not that same type of sexual appetite that is so ravenous that I felt when I was around Rob fans.
